I had a great first Mother’s Day. Lincoln slept it, allowing me to meander in the morning. Then Shane took me to Mitchell’s Steak House for lunch with another first time Mother’s Day mom. I thoroughly enjoyed my gorgonzola crusted filet mignon. While I simultaneously munched on buttered asparagus and stuffed mac and cheese into my little boy’s mouth, Lincoln enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, taking the opportunity to show off his new found screeching abilities to the delight of the other patrons. Between bites, he let out grunts and screams that were both cute and embarrassing. Afterwards, we picked up pieces of cheesecake, settled in for our naps, and dreamt of garlic mashed potatoes. Shane then graciously sent me off to do some shopping, and I returned home to a baby ready for bed. Pretty great day.

Unfortunately, today is nothing like yesterday. It all started around 4:45 a.m. when Lincoln woke up crying. I let it go, thinking he would eventually fall asleep, but by 5:30, he was still at it. Here’s where the shift really occurs: Lincoln has soaked through his diaper, his pajamas, and the sheets. I feed him, change him, change the sheets, change myself, feed myself, change the boy again, nebulize him, chauffer him, paint t-shirts with first class, paint flags with second class, make scrapbook pages with third class, paint puzzle pieces with fourth class, work on a DC monument project, attend meetings, call parents, make copies, send emails, pick up Lincoln, and finally start to relax UNTIL I walk into my house and realize my dog has made a “mess” in her kennel. And here we go again…
The theme was “super hero”, while the party did come with party favors in the form of personalized cape’s, Super Lincoln did not need a cape, but he did enjoy one of the party favors...

Every day since Lincoln was born either Ellen or I (or both of us) pray with him before we put him down for bed. We pray:

“Dear God, Thank you for you
Thank you for me
Thank you for all of the things I can not see
God Bless Mommy
God Bless Daddy
God Bless all my friends and family
Most of all I love you Jesus”

There are several times per day when we will say short prayers together, and just about daily, I will share with him some of my favorite bible verses or try to tell him my memory verses. Over the last few months, there has been a definite change in his countenance during these times. While he is definitely acting like a little boy, he seems to know when we are trying to communicate with God. He will often get still, lay his head against my head and just be uncharacteristically calm.
While I know this could simply be coincidence, there are just too many days that are growing more and more frequent to dismiss this from not being God’s activity in my little boys heart.

So great to see this happen. While there is so much potential in every little boy and girl, its great to think of how that potential is impacted by God.
Along with my family and extended family, Ellen’s family came as well. We had a terrific time together. We ate, played games, ate, opened gifts, ate, and had a great time getting to know each other better. It’s fun to see how Lincoln makes everyone smile and gave us all another excuse to be together.

Through the weekend Ellen and Ieft our cameras laying around and found lots of great pictures on our cameras when the weekend was over. The video below shows some of the highlights.

...Son, if you’re reading this and its 2025, I’m sorry about the Santa outfit.
